The Spring Green Collection Bed reflects the smooth fluid lines of the classic French sleigh style, complete with the exquisite rounded scrolls and contours that only a true artisan could craft out of genuine, solid wood. Curves and contours in solid wood are exceedingly difficult to craft, and so less skilled woodworkers rely on toxic plywood and other man-made "woods" that bend and mold easily. Plywood is comprised of mere shavings of wood that have been literally peeled from a low-grade log and then glued to other "peelings" through the typical application of carcinogenic formaldehyde-based glues and chemical patches -- all of which are then cooked up in an oven at high heat. These cooked formaldehyde peelings are then bent into various shapes through the application of other chemicals and water, not to mention treated with toxic varnishes, finishes, stains and paints. Production of such "fake or faux" woods is more akin to lab work than true artisan woodworking, and according to the EPA such man-made woods are one of the main sources of toxic indoor air pollution. Chemicals, including Volatile Organic Compounds known as VOCs and known carcinogens, such as formaldehyde, benzene and toulene, off-gas from fake wood furnishings from the time we unknowingly place them in our homes.
