About the manufacturer:
Organic Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) is more than just the leading manufacturer of organic mattresses and bedding; we are a fullcircle environmental company committed to offering retailers the purest organic mattresses and bedroom products available. Our mattresses meet the the criteria of the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI). GEI’s mission is to improve public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air. In fact, our mattresses are pure enough to receive its most stringent certification for “children and schools.”
The GREENGUARD Certification Program (see greenguard.org) provides us as an organic manufacturer with credibility that is unique in the mattress industry. Ours are the only mattresses (organic or conventional) certified as low-emitting products under the GREENGUARD third-party testing program. This certification is a valuable tool for retailers, who can offer a certified product to consumers, designers, and other purchasers who wish to purchase low-emitting products.
About OMI's Factory:
OMI mattresses and bedding are produced in the only certified mattress Eco-Factory in North America. Consumers appreciate the fact that absolutely no synthetic raw materials are ever present on our premises. Cross contamination is just not a possibility in an all-organic production environment. Our commitment to maintaining a chemical-free, smoke-free, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free environment runs so deep that our employees don’t smoke, wear fragrances, or use fabric softeners on their clothing, and all are required to wear sanitary production smocks while at work.
About OMI's Raw Materials (Made in the U.S.A.)
OMI uses only the finest certified organic raw materials in the production of our mattresses and bedding. It is important to us that we support American organic farmers, therefore we source our raw materials as close to home as possible. Our certified organic cotton batting is premium-grade, virgin cotton that has been sanitized with our exclusive non-chemical ozone process and garnetted to our specifications. Our premium Eco-Wool is humanely shorn from hormone-free, homeopathically raised California sheep that graze in pesticide-free meadows. OMI’s natural rubber latex cores are supplied by the only U.S. source for pure, 100% natural Talalay-process rubber, the finest latex foam available in the world.
As opposed to synthetic foam, the rubber for our products is derived from the milk of the rubber tree (hevea brasilensis) in a manner similar to that used to tap maple trees for the production of maple syrup. It is then dried to a fine powder and stored until needed to manufacture our cores. The Talalay process essentially consists of whipping the reconstituted liquid rubber, injecting it into a vacuum mold, flash-freezing the latex to prevent settling, and then heating the rubber into its final state. It is then washed in a five-stage fresh-water rinse that washes away any residual soaps, curing agents, and proteins. Between rinses, cores are squeezed to less than 4% of their total thickness to ensure the removal of any residual materials from deep within the core. The final core is more than 99% pure. The Talalay process produces the most consistent and durable latex foam possible, whereas the Dunlop process, while similar and far more common in the natural-products market, does not include the essential vacuum air-extraction and flash-freezing steps. This allows particles to settle, and ultimately results in a less consistent product.
